Our Pastor Rev. Christine Oscar came to our church in May of 2000. She has brought a great joy and a sense of togetherness to our church. She came to us from Greensboro North Carolina, and we are very pleased to have her with us.
Her Community Involvement
In 1985-1990 she was a lecturer, trainer and volunteer for Hospice of Greensboro, including in-service for their staff in regards to dealing with Gay/Lesbian couples and their families. In 1986 she was one of the founders of the Triad Health Project. A local Greensboro HIV/AIDS service organization. As well as a member of the Board of Directors of the Triad Health Project till 1990. Between 1986-1993 she was involved with the Moses Cone Hospital AIDS Team, working closely with Physicians/staff in the hospitals AIDS clinic.
Christine helped establish Minority AIDS Project in the Triad Area. She was A member of the North Carolina Council of Churches and the Executive Committee Presenter at Western Carolina Methodist Council. A Baccalaureate Speaker for Guilford College Commencement. Guest Lecturer at UNC-Greensboro, Greensboro College, N.C. A&T State University, Guilford College, Pfieffer College, Appalachian State University, and Wake Forest University. Present at Becoming Welcoming Congregations seminar for various denominations.
She also developed food and non-food distribution assistance program targeting Underserved populations including non-AFDC families, people with HIV/AIDS, those in substance abuse programs and pregnant women and new mothers. Provided resources and training for therapists regarding spirituality and sexuality.
As well as a guest speaker for Unitarian Church, St. Mary's Episcopal Church and Resurrection Lutheran Church. Speaker at Courage to Car Conference to train Churches regarding caring and compassion training for church members affected by HIV/AIDS. She established a Food Bank through St. Mary's, initially to help those affected by HIV/AIDS, and in which served 200 individuals per month.
